Hi, I’m Megan – Pet Photographer Based in Steelville, MO

I’m a professional pet photographer with a passion for capturing the unique personalities and moments that make each pet special. Every pet has its own story to tell, and my goal is to create images that reflect that, authentic, personal, and full of life. Animals have always been at the center of my life. I grew up surrounded by them, got involved in rescue work and animal training early on, and I’ve always seen them as more than just pets. They’re family, in every sense of the word.

My love for photography grew out of that connection. I realized how important it was to me to have lasting memories of the animals I share my life with. I wanted to remember not just what they looked like, but the little quirks, the joy, the bond we shared. I started taking photos just for myself, first with my phone, then with a DSLR as I wanted to do justice to those moments. What began as a personal project turned into a passion that’s now been growing for over six years.

I named my business Merlin’s Eye Photography in honor of my dog, Merlin. He was one of the most important animals in my life, and yet I don’t have a single photo of him. That absence has stuck with me and became one of the biggest reasons I do what I do. This work is, in many ways, a tribute to him and a way to help others preserve the memories that matter.

My goal is to create images that tell a story, with your pet right at the heart of it. Whether it's a fun, energetic session or a quiet, soulful moment, I want to help you hold onto what matters most. Because some bonds are too special to be forgotten and they deserve to be remembered beautifully.

Meet My Animals and My Approach to Working With Yours

Meet the Animals Who Inspire Me

Animals have always been at the heart of my life. I grew up surrounded by them and have always been deeply passionate about understanding their behavior and needs. My experience with animals goes beyond just photography, it’s a lifelong commitment to learning how they think, what makes them tick, and how to create positive, lasting relationships with them.

At home, I share my life with a wonderful mix of animals who each bring something unique to the table. I have five dogs—Levi, Dio, Bip, Lincoln, and Keita, each with their own distinct personalities. I also have two horses, Clearsky, a young colt with a curious nature, and Cisco, a senior with plenty of wisdom. And then there are my five cats—Mercy, Bonnie, Boa, Finley, and Ginseng, each of whom came to me through rescue, and each has found their forever home with us

.

Working with animals of all shapes and sizes, whether it’s reactive dogs, spooky horses, shy or playful cats, it has given me an appreciation for the way they communicate. Understanding their body language and behavior is key to capturing the best, most natural shots. It helps me anticipate how they might react in different situations, creating an environment where they feel safe, relaxed, and ready for the camera.

This hands-on experience with animals isn’t just something I bring to my photography, it’s the foundation of it. I believe every pet has a unique story to tell, and my goal is to create images that reflect their true spirit while ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease throughout the entire session.
